The Fat Butcher
Situated on the corner of Drostdy and Van Riebeeck Streets, surrounded by some of the town’s oldest buildings, this popular steak restaurant also prides itself on the excellent quality of its handmade burgers which are served with quality toppings, the Fat Butcher’s famous chips and crispy onion rings.
Stellenbosch Kitchen
Stellenbosch Kitchen or Kombuis Restaurant offers a truly authentic Stellenbosch dining experience in the heart of the winelands. Located on the corner of historic Dorp Street and Andringa Streets, guests can relax on the terrace or dine in-house, enjoying traditional South African food. Their signature “Monster Burger is served on a sesame bun, topped with spicy pink sauce, onion marmalade and Healey’s cheddar cheese.
Hudson’s Burger Joint
Serving what are probably the most famous gourmet burgers in South Africa, Hudson’s is an American inspired diner with a contemporary twist. Their beef and chicken burger patties are free range and locally sourced, seasoned with Hudson’s secret spice. The rolls are freshly baked, in-house, every morning and fries are hand-cut in Hudson’s kitchen daily. With more than 20 burgers to choose from, you may need to return more than once.
Basic Bistro
This cozy restaurant has been serving up good food prepared with quality ingredients in a comfortable environment for many years. They are particularly well known for their award-winning burgers, such as the Boksom Bende Burger, which recently won the Woodfees “Burger War”. This indulgent meal consists of a pure 180g beef burger topped with creamy bella mushroom sauce, melted cheddar, caramelized onions, bacon strips and crisp rocket. All burgers on the menu are also served with crispy wafer fries that Basic Bistro seasons with rosemary, coarse salt and balsamic glaze.
Craft Wheat and Hops
This popular Stellenbosch eatery boasts an extensive “Between 2 Buns” menu including The Americano, Meat the Cheese Burger, Jan Braai Burger, Craft Burger and CBC Amber Weiss Burger Bun, the Avolicious, the Classic Cheese Burger, the Nacho Burger, The Peno Burger, the Mrs Cole, the Milano and the Double Trouble burger featuring an indulgent two beef patties. Also a great spot for beer-lovers, this outlet boasts more than 15 micro-breweries on tap and another 20 brewery offerings available in bottles.

De Akker
Located in a heritage building dating back to the late 1700s, De Akker is Stellenbosch’s oldest licensed pub. The name “De Akker” means “acorn” in Afrikaans and refers to the many oaks that line picturesque Church Street in Stellenbosch, which is often referred to as “The City of Oaks”. In this character-filled pub you will find good food, a wide selection of drinks and a great atmosphere.
